ABOUT ME

Welcome!

Thank you for taking time to look at my ePortfolio, which admittedly is a work in progress, I would suggest coming back occasionally and seeing updates.  Now, coming to the end of my journey at IUPUI I have compiled this ePortfolio for professors, employers, future networking opportunities, or anyone curious about my life and my work. In my ePortfolio I will show a general representation of my education, hobbies, interests, goals, expertise, experiences, and my current resume.

About me!

My name is Kaylee Moore. I was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, and went to Ben Davis High School. I am twenty-three years old and with the love and support of my family, I have been in college pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology, which I began after finishing a grueling twelve-month accelerated program where I earned my associate's degree in the liberal arts. After I complete my undergraduate degree I plan on going into the GIS graduate program at IUPUI.

Journey!

During my high school days, I was a lost soul, smart but dumb, lacking guidance and goals. When it came to my senior year of high school, and hearing my counselor tell me year after year that “I have potential” really started to aggravate me. “Potential” is just a polite way of saying that you’re smart but we have no faith you’ll get far. Time after time I saw people leaving high school and settling. Settling for a minumun wage job, not challenging their minds and their potential; completely content with just working and raising a family. I am not saying these people are in the wrong, but I myself, didn't want to be just lumped into a huge category of people that just got by in life and then...thats it. I didn’t want to be just another kid that “had potential.” So I did my research and I found the Advance Accelerated Degree Program, which offered low-income individuals a siphon to do a beta-program for twelve-months and earn their associates degree. Unfortunately, we lost half the students along the way, but I was determined, I had drive, and I was angry at the people that doubted me. I graduate with honors, a 4.0 GPA, and scholarships. I came straight to IUPUI, still a bit lost on what direction to take; I dabbled in the sciences and math, and realized that I sucked at Chemistry. So I took some electives, one being Anthropology. I fell in love with Anthropology, and the social sciences. I was always lost and thought I’d never find the right fit, so it was a breath of fresh air when I found something I was truly passionate about. I have had highs and lows throughout my journey in college, some I wish I could go back and slap myself about, and others I feel I learned valuable lessons. Either way, as advice to people beginning their journey is to be determined, never give up, find something you are truly passionate about and go all in. don’t half-heartedly do anything. Passion and drive shows in the work you do and it keeps you going.

I will sometimes get wound-up in the excitement of new things. I am adventurous and I get lost, but I am always determined to find my way back, and to prove people wrong. Sometime both angst and love can be the kick you need to get to where you need to be.

Goals!

Short-term goals: Graduate, find a job I can feel at home with. Never settle, because there are so many experiences and opportunities in this world it’d be a waste to get cozy with the first thing that lands in my lap. I want opportunities to meet new people, travel, see the world, and hear others success stories. I want every day to be a story I can tell someone when I get home.

Long-term goals: I want to go to graduaate school and achieve everything possible in my education, career, and life.

I want to continue to learn every day of my life. I want a job that is fluid, always changing, and that contributes to making an impact on this world. I want to stand out in the crowd with my work, make a difference, and do the absolute best I can do. We have only one life to make an impact, so there is no time to waste, and I want to rest knowing I helped as many people I could.

Outside of the classroom I began working a geology laboratory about a year ago. It was something I knew nothing about, but was fortunate to get hired on. I fell in love with the lab setting, and the science. Though I was not great at chemistry and formulas, I can understand Nature. I can get passionate about dirt, and I could see myself using this knowledge in my future career endeavors. This job was a great experience for me, because it was completely out of my element, it was a subject I knew nothing about, but fell in love with. It’s important to step-out of your normal routine, try something you know nothing about, and it fails you move on, but sometimes it’s an experience that could contribute to your life.
